Skiing 365 Days a Year

Experience Austria's only ski resort open all year

Skiing 365 days a year? That's right! The ski resort on the Hintertux Glacier is the only one in Austria which welcomes skiers and snowboarders every single day of the year – and it is just a few minutes away from the Hotel Eden. The glacier resort combined with the other wintersports resorts in the Zillertal Valley have an incredible 515 kilometres of pistes. Other winter activities include ski touring and cross-country skiing.

Winter in the Zillertal valley

Skiing in the Zillertal Valley

Four resorts to choose from

The Zillertal Valley is not just any old valley – it is the valley with the most skiing anywhere in the world! And the Hotel Eden is the ideal base camp for exploring the four resorts and 515km of pistes which draw skiers and boarders from near and far.

The highest of the four resorts is the Ski- & Gletscherwelt Zillertal 3000, which can be accessed using a cable car just a few minutes away from the Hotel Eden. This resort alone has 192 kilometres of pistes and is serviced by a free ski shuttle bus which stops just 100 metres from our hotel. The other three resorts in the valley can also be reached in just a few minutes by car.

Resorts in the valley

  • Ski- & Gletscherwelt Zillertal 3000
  • Mayrhofner Bergbahnen
  • Zillertal Arena
  • Hochzillertal – Hochfügen – Spieljoch

Zillertaler Superskipass

  • 515 kilometres of pistes
  • 179 lifts & cable cars

515 Kilometres of Pistes

The world's biggest valley ski resort

The Zillertal Valley's four ski resorts offer a total of 515 kilometres of pistes – and holders of the Zillertaler Superskipass have access to all the slopes, including untouched powder, funslopes, snow parks, race courses, ski schools and traditional wooden huts high in the mountains serving delicious food. As well as large resorts ideal for experts and cruisers there are also smaller resorts for families and beginners.

Don't hesitate to ask a member of staff at the Hotel Eden for advice on the best place to hit the slopes. Many of our holiday packages include a ski pass. Guests who do not yet have one can buy a ski pass from reception instead of having to queue in the morning. All you need to do is get up, have breakfast and head for the cable car! Modern equipment in top condition can be hired from our partners at Tuxer Sporthaus and Sport Nenner.

Hintertux Glacier

Sport & fun high in the mountains

The ski bus, which stops just 100 metres from our hotel, takes only 11 minutes to get to the bottom of the cable car which transports skiers and boarders up to the Ski- & Gletscherwelt Zillertal 3000 resort. Just enough time to enjoy the view and start planning your day on the Hintertux Glacier.

With pistes up to 3,250 metres above sea level and 196 kilometres of slopes, this glacier resort – the only one in Austria open 365 days a year – is a great place to start.

Nearby is another glacier, the Tuxer Ferner, with its legendary snowpark and guaranteed powder from October until May. What are you waiting for? Let's go!

Glacier highlights

  • 196 kilometres of pistes
  • 65 lifts & cable cars
  • Skiing above 3,000 metres
  • Guaranteed powder from October to May
  • Open all year
  • Natural Ice Palace – walk inside the glacier
  • Betterpark Snow Park
  • Funslope
  • Spannagelhöhle cave
  • Sunny terrace with great views

Sun worshippers will enjoy the pistes on the Penken mountain. And even on the hottest days in summer the resort on the Hintertux Glacier is open for business as Austria's only year-round ski area. A cool place to cool off!

Cross-Country Skiing

Straight from the hotel onto the trails

Cross-country skiing is a popular sport which is not only great for your fitness but also easy to learn. Here at the Hotel Eden we are lucky enough to have a 14km trail ("Luggi-Gredler-Loipe") passing by the building and leading from Tux-Vorderlanersbach to Madseit. In Juns and Madseit there are 14km more of trails for cross-country skiers who practise the modern and dynamic Skating style.

Lessons and equipment are available from the Schneesport Tux 3000 Skischule and Sport Nenner in Lanersbach.

Ski Touring

Backcountry adventures

Ski touring is the perfect sport for intermediate and advanced skiers who want to get away from the busy slopes and back to nature. The Erler family has practised this sport for many years and knows the local mountains better than most. Feel free to ask a member of staff for information about the current avalanche risk level as well as maps and route descriptions. Below we have put together a short summary of two of our favourite ski tours in the region. Both start just a few minutes from the hotel.

Grüblspitze

  • Difficulty level: easy to intermediate; suitable for beginners
  • Route: start at the Tuxer Mühle mill near the Hotel Eden and head towards the Brandalm hut and then on to the Waldhoaralm hut and over the ridge to the top of the Grüblspitze mountain at 2,395m.

Tobogganing in Tux

Fun for all the family

Tobogganing is one of the best winter activities for families. Near the Hotel Eden there are three toboggan runs between three and five kilometres in length.

Part of the fun is walking up, pulling your sledge behind you, to a traditional hut serving Tyrolean food. After a hearty meal and a refreshing drink it is time to whizz back down!

All three toboggan runs are floodlit in the evening.

Snowshoeing & Winter Hiking

Explore a winter wonderland

Two of the best ways to see the Zillertal Valley from a different perspective in winter are snowshoeing and winter hiking.

Far from the busy ski slopes, the region has 68 kilometres of well-marked trails maintained throughout the winter. They range from easy walks in the valley to more challenging hikes to the Eggalm and the Sommerbergalm huts with up to 700 vertical metres of ascent. Three winter hiking trails start in the village of Juns, where the Hotel Eden is located.

Snowshoes can be borrowed free of charge from the hotel. Head out and explore the winter wonderland that is the Zillertal Valley or join the Erler family on one of their guided hikes offered several times a week. Ask a member of staff for more details.
